London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

Cleaners, porters, post-room and security staff led a successful campaign with the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) to be brought in-house at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Despite staff winning improved terms and conditions, LSHTM has continued to try to deny workers full equality with directly employed staff. For example, denying them even the lowest rung of the university’s pay structure. Although we are the majority union for cleaners, porters, post-room and security staff, LSHTM still refuse to recognise IWGB.
Our members continue to protest poor working conditions at LSHTM, including overwork, bullying, discrimination, and work-related injuries. As well as fighting for justice for LSHTM workers, we are calling for union recognition.
